Assessment with business simulations. Every decision is evidence.
Assess decisions, results and reasoning, not just one exam. Hubro simulations bring quizzes, assignments, performance scoring and participation tracking into the simulation, with grades synced to your LMS through Canvas, Moodle, Blackboard or Brightspace.
Free instructor account. Assessment tools included in every simulation.
Each round produces decisions, results and explanations you can assess. Hubro combines auto-graded quizzes, assignments, a Balanced Scorecard and participation data. You set the weighting, approve grades and sync to Canvas, Moodle, Blackboard or Brightspace.
Why is a simulation such a valuable assessment format?
A simulation shows whether students can apply what they know, explain their decisions and improve over time. You get evidence from every round, not just 1 exam.
See progress over time
An exam captures one morning. A simulation shows how students respond round by round, including how they recover after a poor decision.
Assess practical skills
Students do more than explain segmentation. They choose a market, commit a budget and explain the result. You assess application, analysis and judgment, not recall alone.
Make feedback part of learning
Results arrive after every round. Students see what worked, adjust their plan and try again while the course is still running.
Keep scoring consistent
The Balanced Scorecard applies the same metrics to every team. You decide what counts, while your judgment stays focused on the quality of students' reasoning.
Students stay involved
Teams check the standings, discuss strategy and return between classes to improve their next decision.
There were clear signs of engagement and enjoyment with the process and the content. One of our students from the first cohort, a lawyer, mentioned to me in a telephone call that it 'was the most fun she had doing an assessment - EVER!'
What can you assess in a Hubro simulation?
Assess performance, subject knowledge, written analysis, participation and reflection. Hubro includes a tool for each part.
Performance, weighted your way
Choose the metrics and weights that match your learning objectives. The Balanced Scorecard calculates performance and updates team rankings.
Auto-graded quizzes and exercises
Place quizzes within rounds and grade them automatically. Bundled editions can follow the textbook section by section. See Sage textbook bundles.
Written assignments and reflections
Students can submit plans, analyses and reflections based on their own simulation data. Grade the work yourself, or review AI-generated scores and feedback.
Participation you can see
The instructor dashboard records decisions, completed tasks and progress by round. Use it to assess participation and spot uneven contributions early.
Debriefs and final reports
Review what happened to each team and why. Use the results for class debriefs, vivas or final reports.
A certificate of completion. Students who finish the simulation can share it on LinkedIn. It recognizes the work. It is not part of the grade.
How do instructors grade a simulation course?
A simple model uses 3 layers. Start with 1 graded assignment alongside your current assessment, then add more when you are ready. See how to get started.
Grade the reasoning, not just the rank. Market conditions differ between simulation worlds. Use performance as 1 part of the grade, but put more weight on how well students explain their decisions with data.
Can students cheat a simulation assessment?
No. Students cannot copy answers, because there is no shared answer key. Every team makes its own decisions and produces its own results. Written work has to explain that unique record, so copied or generic work cannot pass. See how this supports assurance of learning.
There is no answer key to copy
A simulation is not a test with one correct paper. Each team makes its own decisions and gets its own results, so a copied plan cannot match what actually happened in their world.
Written work must match the record
Assignments ask students to explain their own strategy and results. A recycled paper or generic AI answer will not match that unique record.
Individual contribution stays visible
The dashboard records activity by round. Pair it with individual reflections to assess the team's result and each student's contribution separately.
They cannot cheat it by copying answers. The decisions and results are their own.
And when classes get big
Quizzes and performance scores are automatic whether you teach 30 students or 800. AI grading can also score written work and draft personalized feedback. You review everything before it is final.
Better assessment, better learning
4 out of 5 educators report improved learning outcomes after adopting Hubro. At Oslo Metropolitan University, average grades in 1 marketing course rose by a full grade. 94% of students recommend the simulation.
Common questions about simulation assessment
How are students graded in a business simulation?
You can combine auto-graded quizzes, written assignments, reflections, Balanced Scorecard performance and participation data. You choose the weighting and approve every grade.
Can students cheat a simulation assessment?
No. There is no shared answer key. Each team makes its own decisions and produces its own results, so copied work cannot match another team's simulation record.
Is a simulation a valid form of assessment?
Yes. Students apply analysis, decision-making and strategy over several weeks, giving you more evidence than a single exam. 4 out of 5 educators report improved learning outcomes after adopting Hubro.
Should simulation performance count toward the final grade?
It can. Most instructors combine performance with written work that explains the team's decisions. The Balanced Scorecard lets you choose which performance measures count and how much they weigh.
How do you assess group work fairly in a simulation?
Grade team results and individual contribution separately. Reflections show each student's reasoning, while the instructor dashboard shows who took part. We recommend teams of 1 to 3.
Does a simulation reduce grading time?
Yes. Quizzes grade themselves, the Balanced Scorecard calculates performance and AI grading can score written work and draft feedback. You review and approve the final grades.
Does Hubro sync grades to my LMS?
Yes. Hubro sends assignments and grades to Canvas, Moodle, Blackboard and Brightspace.
Can I use my own assignments and rubrics?
You can add your own assignments and choose how much they count. Hubro also includes ready-made assignments developed by faculty.
