Combining passion
and expertise

We pair strong technical expertise with a genuine passion for education, and use both to build online business simulations that create real learning experiences. Twelve years on, one stubborn idea still sets the bar: an instructor should be able to teach with a simulation without a week of training first.

Learning requires engagement and participation

We enable learners to go deeper and apply theory in realistic business situations, and we make it straightforward for educators to get them there.

Learning takes part, not passive listening

All learners deserve experiences where they delve into the subject matter instead of consuming it. Engagement and participation come first.

Great learning should be accessible

Our simulation games are enjoyable and innovative, with ease of use at the front of every design decision, so going deeper is never gated behind complexity.

Educators should teach, not troubleshoot

We help instructors make a simulation an integral piece of their course, quickly and without worry about technical details.

Both what you learn and how you learn it matter.

It started with a barrier, not a business plan

Instructors wanted to teach with simulations. The tools simply made it too hard to start. That insight is why Hubro Simulations exists, and it still sets the bar for everything we ship.

  1. 2013

An obvious gap in Norwegian classrooms

Only 2 of 19 Norwegian universities and colleges used simulations, even though nearly every instructor was positive towards them. The available simulations were inflexible, needed days of training and were too pricey.

  2. The spin-out

    From NTNU project to company

Hubro began as an in-house project at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, then spun out as a company set on bringing simulations to every educator who wants to engage their learners.

  3. 2014–2023

Building the library, growing the classroom count

Working with subject-matter experts at leading institutions, we grew from one simulation to a family covering business, marketing, finance and sustainability, and went from a handful of Norwegian courses to institutions across Europe and North America.

  4. Today

Part of Sage, used on five continents

Educators in more than 30 countries run Hubro simulations. More than 60% of Norwegian universities and over 100 secondary schools in the country use them, and Hubro is now a wholly owned subsidiary of Sage.

Our simulations travel further than we ever planned

What began as one project at one Norwegian university now runs in classrooms and corporate training rooms around the world.

World-class content, without the learning curve

We never compromise on our vision of engaging, easy-to-use simulations, and we never compromise on the substance behind them either.

  • Content built with subject-matter experts We collaborate with academics at leading institutions so the theory in every simulation holds up in a real syllabus.
  • Game design that keeps learners in the room Decisions have consequences, results arrive fast, and competition between teams does the motivating for you.
  • Grounded in learning science Practice, feedback and reflection are designed into the round structure, not bolted on afterwards.
  • Flexible enough to fit your course Adapt content, pacing and assessment so the simulation becomes an integral part of the course, not a side activity.
