What finance and accounting instructors say

A 2019 study in the Journal of Education for Business tracked 206 students in a flipped-classroom finance course and found average test scores rose from 71% to 81% after a business simulation was added.

The simulation enables students to get hands-on experience in the finance decisions businesses make. I highly recommend it.

Many students never get a proper understanding of how operations and financial statements fit together. I think Hubro Business makes these connections practical and completely clear to them.

Finance and accounting simulation FAQ

What is a finance simulation?

A finance simulation is an online learning tool where students run a company's finances: they raise capital, weigh investments, set dividends and manage cash flow, and the market responds to every decision. Hubro's finance and accounting simulations are customizable, run inside your LMS and take 3 to 12 hours of class time.

Which Hubro simulation fits a corporate finance course?

The Hubro Finance Simulation. Students issue shares and bonds, choose the mix of equity and debt, value the company with multiples or discounted cash flows and see dividend decisions move its market value across 8 quarters. If the course also needs sustainability, the Hubro Sustainable Finance Simulation runs the same finance core in a market that prices ESG.

What is the difference between the Business, Finance and Managerial Accounting simulations?

The Hubro Business Simulation runs the whole company: strategy, production, pricing, microeconomics and financing, at home in introduction-to-business courses. The Hubro Finance Simulation puts corporate finance at the center: capital structure, valuation, dividends and cash flow. The Hubro Managerial Accounting Simulation runs the same case as Business with the accounting course on top: manual budgeting every quarter, variance analysis, financial statements and KPI-based performance measurement.

Do students need prior finance knowledge?

No. The simulation introduces each decision as it arrives: market forecasts before contracts, unit economics before production, statements before valuation. Learner guides and an introductory video cover the mechanics, and you scale the depth through rounds, written exercises and assessment choices, so the same simulation works for a first finance course and a graduate module.

How long does a finance simulation take to run?

Between 3 and 12 hours of class time, depending on the simulation and the number of rounds you run. You can scale the rounds up or down, from an intensive day to a schedule spread across a full semester.

Do the simulations run inside Canvas, Moodle, Blackboard or Brightspace?

Yes. Every Hubro simulation runs inside Canvas, Moodle, Blackboard and Brightspace, with assignments delivered and grades synced through the LMS. Students can also join by link.

Can I customize the simulation content for my course?

Yes. Every Hubro simulation lets you adapt content, pacing and assessment: scale the number of rounds, add or remove assignments, exercises and market events, and choose between team and single-player formats. For something specific, our education team helps tailor the setup.
